2030 World Cup may be jointly hosted by four South America countries which are; Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay.
According to reports, the leaders of football associations of Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile and FIFA President Infantino will hold a meeting in Argentina.
Several nations have already expressed their interest in serving as 2030 host and the vetting process by FIFA will be held over two years before a final decision is made in 2024, six years before the event.
Spain and Portugal became the second official bid for the FIFA World Cup after their October 2020 announcement with Ukraine to join them.
Beginning in 2026, the World Cup will be expanded to a 48-team tournament, likely requiring future hosts to team up in order to host an event of that magnitude.
There have been only two joint bids in the history of the men’s World Cup, but several multi-nation proposals are already being formulated for 2030.
The leaders of the four national football associations and CONMEBOL President Dominguez will strive for South America to obtain the joint bid for the 2030 World Cup in this event.
Dominguez said: “The upcoming World Cup is not an ordinary World Cup. 100 years ago, the first World Cup was held in South America in 1930.”
“Considering the 100th anniversary of the World Cup, the World Cup should be held in South America.”
Dominguez believes FIFA leadership can “in a great gesture” place the next World Cup in its birthplace, above other interests.
The selection of the venue for the forthcoming World Cup will be made at the 74th FIFA Congress in 2024, two years before the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
The idea of a joint bid for the 2030 World Cup originally came from Uruguay and Argentina, who were finalists at the inaugural FIFA Cup in Montevideo in 1930.
In their bid to host the 2030 World Cup, the South American nation will have to compete with Spain and Portugal, which also recently expressed interest in adding Ukraine to their shortlist.
There could be a third alternative between Greece, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, but this is still not officially confirmed.
During 2021, FIFA president Infantino once said: “It would be great to host the World Cup in South America.”
The bidding process was officially launched in the second quarter of 2022, and FIFA announced that a host will be chosen at the 74th FIFA Congress in 2024.
The 2030 competition would be the 24th edition unless world governing body FIFA succeeds in making it a biennial event.
