Stellenbosch FC sign Nigerian defender Enyinnaya Kazie Godswill from Rivers United

South African side Stellenbosch FC have bolstered their defense with the signing of experienced Nigerian defender Enyinnaya Kazie Godswill from Rivers United.

The 25-year-old versatile defender, who can play both as a right-back and in central defense, previously played for Kwara United and Delta Force before joining Rivers United. During his time with Rivers United, Kazie made a significant impact on the continental stage, featuring in 36 games but was unable to secure a trophy for the club. However, he was instrumental in helping Rivers United clinch the 2021/2022 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title, contributing one goal and three assists in that campaign.

According to iDiski Times, Stellenbosch FC have finalized the deal for Kazie, with the transfer now pending a work permit. Once the formalities are completed, the 1.67m tall defender will travel to South Africa for his medicals before officially joining the Cape Winelands side.

Kazie’s arrival at Stellenbosch comes as a replacement for Deano Van Rooyen, who recently moved to Orlando Pirates. Kazie is expected to compete with Kyle Jurgens for the right-back position, following Van Rooyen’s departure. The former Rivers United star will be aiming to secure a regular starting spot as he settles into his new team.

Kazie joins fellow Nigerian Stanley Nwabali as another product of the NPFL making the move to the South African league. Notably, Kazie was part of the Nigerian home-based team that played against Mexico in a 2022 friendly, alongside Nwabali.

Over the course of his career, Kazie has demonstrated a solid attacking output for a defender, scoring nine goals and providing 10 assists in nearly 200 appearances. His move to Stellenbosch FC represents a new chapter in his career, as he looks to make his mark in the South African Premier Division.
