Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has been crowned the 2024 African Player of the Year at the prestigious Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards, held in Marrakech, Morocco.
The glittering ceremony celebrated the best in African football, with Lookman’s exceptional performances over the past year securing him the coveted accolade.
Lookman, who plays for Serie A side Atalanta, had a sensational year, wowing fans with his dazzling skill, blistering pace, and clinical finishing.
His standout performances in both club and international competitions were instrumental in his selection for the top honor.
In addition to his key role in Atalanta’s success in Serie A, Lookman played a pivotal part in Nigeria’s qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

One of the highlights of Lookman’s year came in May when he made history by becoming the first player to score a hat-trick in a UEFA Europa League final.
In an unforgettable performance, Lookman led Atalanta to a stunning 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen, breaking the Bundesliga champions’ remarkable 51-match unbeaten streak in all competitions.
The competition for the award was fierce, with Lookman edging out the likes of Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, and South Africa’s goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.
