Nigeria National side (NNL) Side Barau Football Club has officially suspended former Super Eagles coach Salisu Yusuf from his position as Technical Adviser with immediate effect, due to the team’s poor results.

Chief Coach Rabi’u Tata has been appointed as the interim Technical Adviser. Tata, supported by his assistant, will lead the team during this transitional phase.
The management expressed confidence in Tata’s ability to maintain the team’s performance and development moving forward.

The club’s management emphasized that the changes were made in the best interest of the team’s future.
Salisu Yusuf has built an impressive coaching career despite the challenges he has faced. He has managed several top-tier clubs in Nigeria, including Nasarawa United, Kano Pillars, Enyimba, and El-Kanemi Warriors.

He is perhaps most recognized for leading the home-based Super Eagles to the final of the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) as well assisting former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr.
In addition to his coaching accomplishments, Yusuf had a notable playing career as a midfielder in the 1980s and 1990s, playing for several clubs in Nigeria and representing the national team during the 1980s, when Nigerian football was gaining prominence in Africa.
In August 2018, Yusuf was caught on camera accepting cash from men posing as football agents to select players for the 2018 African Nations Championship squad in Morocco.
The NFF Ethics and Fair Play Committee ruled that Yusuf had received $1,000 from the men and imposed a $5,000 fine and 1 year suspension on him.
Yusuf explained at the time that the $750 he accepted was simply a “gift of trivial and symbolic value” and not an inducement to play the two players represented by the agents.
