William Troost-Ekong delivered a match-defining performance as Al Kholood secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Al Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League on Friday.
The Nigerian international provided a decisive assist in the 100th minute, helping his side climb out of the relegation zone.
The encounter was filled with tension and excitement. Jackson Muleka opened the scoring for Al Kholood with a 26th-minute penalty, but Georginio Wijnaldum equalized just four minutes later, capitalizing on a Moussa Dembélé assist.
In the second half, Myziane Maolida restored Al Kholood’s lead in the 54th minute. However, Dembélé kept Al Ettifaq in contention, converting a 96th-minute penalty to level the match at 2-2.
Deep into stoppage time, Troost-Ekong displayed composure and vision to set up Maolida’s stunning second goal from outside the box, sealing a crucial victory.

Defensively, the centre-back was a rock, registering five clearances, one blocked shot, and one interception. He won both of his ground duels and claimed one aerial duel out of two attempts.
Offensively, Troost-Ekong made a significant impact, including a blocked shot in the 46th minute and his game-winning assist.

Al Kholood’s Fight for Survival
The victory propelled Noureddine Zekri’s team to 13th place in the league standings, with 13 points from 14 games. They sit just one point above 16th-placed Al-Wehda, who feature Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo.
