The official draw for the FIBA AfroBasket 2025 will take place on Saturday, April 19, in Luanda, Angola, as announced by the FIBA Regional Office for Africa.
This event, held five months before the tournament, will set the stage for Africa’s biggest basketball showdown.
Angola is set to host the 16-team tournament from August 12 to 24, 2025, marking the fourth time the country has welcomed the prestigious competition. The nation previously hosted AfroBasket in 1989, 1999, and 2007, back when the tournament was held every two years before switching to its current four-year cycle.

The championship will feature some of Africa’s strongest teams, including Nigeria, Senegal, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, hosts Angola, and reigning champions Tunisia, all battling for continental glory.

Other qualified teams include Guinea, Cape Verde, Libya, Uganda, Cameroon, Rwanda, Madagascar, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Mali.

Nigeria’s D’Tigers are aiming for a resurgence after a disappointing 12th-place finish in the 2021 edition held in Kigali, Rwanda, their worst performance in over 20 years. With the potential return of key players from the NBA and top European leagues, the team hopes to reclaim the AfroBasket title, which they last won in 2015.
