Interim Head Coach of the Sudanese national team, Burhan Tia has admitted his side played against one of the best teams in Africa during Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Nigeria.
The Falcons of Jediane fell behind inside three minutes against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the ongoing 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Goals from Samuel Chukwueze (3), Taiwo Awoniyi (45) and Moses Simon (46) put Nigeria in cruise control before Waliedin Khidir (70) made the scoreline a little respectable from the spot.
But Burhan Tia believes his side did their best against Nigeria which he described as not good enough against ‘one of the best in the continent.‘
“We gave our best against one of the best teams on the continent, but obviously it wasn’t enough to guarantee us a win,” Tia addressed the media after the match on Saturday.
“They have a lot of quality players and it showed in their performance. They were too good for us. We take a lot of lessons from this defeat.
“We have one game left in the group and we will do our best to qualify even though it is not going to be easy,” Tia said during his interaction with the media after the game.”
Sudan started their campaign with a goalless draw against Guinea Bissau in Matchday 1, with just a point in the opening two matches, they will have to defile the odds and hope fortune smiles on them when they face Egypt in their last group game on Wednesday.
A win will take them to four points and an eye for a place in the round of 16, if Guinea Bissau fails to beat Nigeria.
