Rivers United returned to winning ways with a comfortable 3-0 home win over Wikki Tourists on Matchday 12 in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt ended in victory for the Pride of Rivers after their 10-game unbeaten run came to an end last Sunday against Plateau United in Jos.
Ebube Duru scored from the spot to give Rivers United a 37th minute lead after Akuneto Chijioke was fouled inside the box.
Rivers United extended their lead in the 54th minute through Chijioke, scoring nicely from Nyima Nwagua’s pass and Uche Onwuansanya made it 3-0 for the home side in the final stages of the game with an assist from Duru to secure a comfortable victory for Rivers United.
With the win over Wikki Tourists, Rivers United returned to the summit of the NPL with 25 points, two clear of second-placed Remo Stars.
Meanwhile, Enyimba International suffered yet another frustrating afternoon after being held to a 1-1 draw by Niger Tornadoes at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.
The People’s Elephant went behind in the 39th minute after Kabiru Adeniji scored from the edge of the box to give Niger Tornadoes the lead heading into half time.
Enyimba’s captain Austin Oladapo scored from the spot level things up for the host in the 45th minute, with the first half ending in frantically with the host reduced to 10-men following Samuel Kalu’s second yellow card of the day.
In the other game, Nafiu Ibrahim’s 65th minute strike ensured Katsina United returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Abdullahi Biffo’s Kwara United at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.
