Friday Ekpo: Why Osimhen plays better for Napoli than with the Super Eagles

Victor Osimhen

Osimhen is the highest ranked active player on Nigeria’s all-time goalscorers chart but former Nigerian Midfielder Friday Ekpo has spoken of why his performances for Napoli rates better.

Ekpo a member of Nigeria’s 1990 Africa Cup of Nations silver winning team is of the opinion that Osimhen plays better at Napoli because of the understanding with teammates from regular practice sessions

Ekpo told Brila Fm ” When the coach is assembling the team [Super Eagles] , they don’t spend an awful lot of time. So there should not be too much pressure in him to play for the Super Eagles as much as he does at Napoli.

Osimhen is not a one man riot. At his club, they understand him because they play regularly. That’s a huge difference.

“The Super Eagles coach should put on his thinking cap and have many good options in the striker position,” the former Nigeria midfielder stressed.

Osimhen has scored 17 goals in 22 appearances for Nigeria’s Super Eagles. Despite missing the 2021 AFCON and regular absence from the team with injury during most International windows, Osimhen is widely tipped with the potential to reach Rashidi Yekini’s all-time goal-scoring record for Nigeria.

The potential is glaring, but like every striker, Victor Osimhen will only influence games for the Eagles if he gets the right supplies and partnership like he currently shares with red-hot Kvaratshelia for the Partonopei.
