Sochima Victor looks back at ‘transformative’ last 12 months

Sochima Victor, Rivers united goalkeeper has expressed that the last 12 months had been a massive improvement in his football career.

The hard working goalkeeper, who was called up to the Super Eagles squad for the 2023 Africa cup of Nations qualifiers double- header against Guniea Bussia, for putting up a good performance all season with Rivers united since he joined the NPFL defending Champions from Jigawa Golden stars in the summer of 2021/2022 season.

Sochima, while speaking in a exclusive interview with The Athletic NG, said that it has been a massive transformation in his career in Rivers united

“Yes, the last 12 months has been a massive transformation for me,” said Sochima.

“We’re doing good this season, and are on course to retain our trophy and already in the Quarter finals of the CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC). It is the collective efforts of the whole team.

The Enugu state-born goalkeeper further added, that the competition in the goalkeeping department in Rivers united pushed him to get better by working hard everyday in the training sessions.

“Personally, it’s been good too, but the level of competition in our goalkeeping department is massive, ” Sochima added.

“We are all pushing each other to get better because anybody can play at anytime as long as you are selected.

The former Jigawa Golden Stars goalkeeper, who was nominated for the Nigeria Pitch Award alongside Francis Uzoho and Adebayo Adeleye for the “Goalkeeper Award”, but Sochima said that whoever wins it deserve the award.

“It’s a thing of joy to be nominated for the Nigeria Pitch award, among numerous outstanding goalkeepers in the country, “said Sochima.

“However, all thanks goes to my team mates in Rivers United, because know player or goalkeeper does his work alone without the help of his teammates.

“I’m excited to be recognized and hopefully to win it, but both Uzoho and Adeleye has been superb too, both whoever wins it deserve it.

Sochima Victor, will be with the Super Eagles team as they take on Guniea Bussia this evening, in a 2023 Africa cup of Nations qualifiers, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
