NPFL round-up: Leaders Insurance holds Enyimba in Aba, Rangers, Akwa United, Doma United secure home win

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) resumed from the mid-season break for the second stanza after 41 days with fixtures across all centres on Matchday 10.

In Aba, leaders Bendel Insurance produced a remarkable display as they denied Enyimba Int’l three points at the Enyimba International Stadium.

Chukwuemeka Obioma gave the Peoples Elephant the lead when he converted from the spot in the 44th minute to put the host 1-0 ahead in the first half. Imade Osarenkhoe scored a brilliant free kick to level the scoreline for the visitors in the 81st minute to end his side a point.

Both Chukwuemeka Obioma (9 goals) and Imade Osarenkhoe (8 goals) have been on good scoring form and are leading the way for the golden boot award in the NPFL this season.

Akwa United resumed the second stanza of the season with a comfortable 2-0 home win over guest Shooting Stars at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

Ubong Friday and Taiye Murtala scored in the 53rd and 55th minutes of the game to help the Promise Keepers to secure vital three points in the race to finish in playoff places in Group A.

Remo Stars 1-0 Nasarawa

In Ikenne, Samuel Anaekwe scored the winner as Remo Stars defeated Nasarawa United 1-0.

The goal came in the 16th minute when Samuel Anaekwe strike home a delightful close-range effort to secure the victory for the Daniel Ogunmodede side.

Plateau 2 – 0 Gombe United

At the New Jos Stadium, Plateau United secured a comfortable 2-0 home win over visitors Gombe United.

Chimezie Izuchukwu scored with a long-range strike inside the 31st minute that completely embarrassed the Gombe United goalkeeper to put the host 1-0 ahead before Silas Nenrot doubled the lead 2-0 in the 89th minute from a brilliant thunderbolt strike outside the box as the Fidelis IIechukwu earned all maximum three points at home.

Kwara United 2-0 El-Kanemi Warriors

In Akure, Kwara United produced a remarkable display as they opened the second stanza with a 2-0 win over El-kanemi Warriors.

Omaka Antony and Samad Kadiri scored in the 79th and 88th minutes as Kabiru Dogo secured his second home win as head coach of the llorin-based club.

Rivers United 1-1 Abia Warriors

In Port Harcourt, NPFL Rivers United came from behind to snatch a point late in the game against a relentless Abia Warriors at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

Nweke Kalu gave the visitors the lead in the 44th minute with a brilliant strike before Morice Chukwu leveled the score for the defending champions.

Doma United 2-0 Lobi Stars

While Doma United continued their impressive home form with a comfortable 2-0 win over Lobi Stars at the Pantami Stadium, Gombe.

Goals from Daniel Barnabas and Maurice Chigozie in the 88th and 90th minutes were enough for Akin Onigbinde to secure all three points.

Rangers 2-1 Bayelsa United

While at the Awka City Stadium, Rangers Int’l came from behind to beat Bayslea United 2-1.

Oyawah Alex gave Bayelsa United the lead in the 35th minute before Godwin Obaje (47) and Chidera Eze from the penalty spot in the 82nd minute to give Abdul Maikaba ad Rangers a narrow victory at home, moving their season tally to 12 points from 10 games.
