Iheanacho reacts to Super Eagles draw vs Saudi Arabia

Kelechi Iheanacho

Nigeria Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho has taken to social media with his reaction to the team’s 2-2 International Friendly draw against Saudi Arabia.

Iheanacho was a second-half substitute and his introduction changed the course of the match at the Estadio Municipal de Portimao in Portugal on Friday, October 13.

The Leicester City FC striker was sent on in the 73rd minute in place of Samuel Chukwueze with scores negatively set for the Eagles at 0-1 in favour of Saudi Arabia.

A few minutes later, Nigeria drew level after Al-Amri turned into his own goal.

In the 81st minute, Kelechi Iheanacho scored with a stunning strike from outside the Saudi Arabian penalty area to hand Nigeria a 2-1 lead.

Following Iheanacho’s goal, Nigeria was on course for a fourth consecutive win, a first in fifteen International Friendly matches one that would have extended Saudi Arabia’s losing streak to seven straight games.

Mohammed Kanno however did score from a free-kick deep in stoppage time to deny Nigeria victory as they prepare for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifying games vs Lesotho and Zimbabwe in November.

Hours after the game, Iheanacho on his X handle said the outcome wasn’t what the team expected.

Iheanacho wrote on Twitter: “Not the result we wanted. We learn and focus on the next game.”

Nigeria will next face the Mambas of Mozambique on the 16th of October at the Estadio Municipal de Portimao, Portugal.
