AFCON 2023: Super Eagles to face Angola in quarter-finals

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face the Giant Sable Antelope of Angola in the AFCON 2023 Quarterfinals on Friday, February 2, 2024 at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium.

Nigeria and Angola have all progressed to the quarter-finals after beating each of their opponents in the round of 16.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria had a decisive win over the  Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on Saturday after a hard-fought game.

Two goals from Ademola Lookman were enough to send the Super Eagles to the next round of the competition

Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman scored twice in each half to help Nigeria get past five-time Champions, Cameroon on Saturday, and seal a place in the last eight.

The Atalanta forward opened the scoring nine minutes before the break after Victor Osimhen forced Oumar Gonzalez into a mistake and then teed up Lookman to fire past goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa, who was preferred against Andre Onana.

Lookman sealed the win in the 90th minute after one of the game’s best moves, volleying home Calvin Bassey’s cut-back to spark huge celebrations among the three-time champions.

Despite introducing Vincent Aboubakar, the top scorer at the 2021 edition of the AFCON tournament, late on for his first appearance after a muscle injury sustained on the eve of the finals, Cameroon failed to register a single shot on target.

Angola defeated Namibia on Friday 3-0, with Jacinto Dala involved in all three goals.
