The battle for Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) supremacy gets underway as fixtures for the Super Six playoffs were drawn on Friday in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Heartland Queens, debutants in the competition, will have their hands full in their opening match on Saturday against former champions Nasarawa Amazons. The clash will take place at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.

The opening day also features a clash between Confluence Queens and Edo Queens, while the final match will see perennial powerhouses Rivers Angels face off against Bayelsa Queens, Africa’s third-best club side.

Following a rest day on Sunday, the teams will resume their battle on Monday in a round-robin format. Each team will play five matches, with the side accumulating the most points at the end declared champions.

The winner will not only be crowned NWFL champions but will also earn the prestigious right to represent Nigeria at the CAF Women’s Champions League. However, they will need to navigate through sub-regional playoffs to secure their place in the continental competition proper.

Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens, who participated in the first two editions of the Champions League, will be aiming to reclaim their continental dominance. At the same time, Heartland Queens will hope to cause an upset in their debut appearance.
