The Akwa Ibom State Football Association (AKFA) board, led by its Chairman, Mr. Samuel Umoh, paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Women’s Championship-bound Ibom Angels FC during their training session at the Uyo Township Stadium on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.
The visit, part of AKFA’s ongoing tour of football teams across the state, was aimed at encouraging and supporting the team as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Ibom Angels FC, the only state-owned female football team in Akwa Ibom, is currently preparing to compete in the second tier of women’s football in Nigeria. Their primary goal is to regain promotion to the First Division, a quest that has the full backing of the AKFA.
During the visit, the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association, Mr. Samuel Umoh, and his board members interacted with the team, pointing out the importance of discipline and professionalism. Umoh also urged the players to give their best and make Akwa Ibom State proud in the upcoming Women’s Championship playoffs.

“We are here to support you and to encourage you to aim for the highest standards,” Umoh said. “Your success is our success, and we are committed to providing you with the necessary support to achieve your goals.”
To demonstrate their commitment, the AKFA board made a cash donation to the team. Umoh assured the players and coaching staff that the Football Association would continue to provide support and encouragement throughout the season.
The AKFA board, elected and inaugurated in April 2024, has been proactive in its efforts to engage with all football teams in the state. Following their visit to Ibom Angels FC, the board held a meeting with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) to discuss ways to further promote and support football in Akwa Ibom.
Since its inauguration, the Samuel Umoh-led AKFA has been dedicated to fostering a robust football culture in the state. This includes meeting with critical stakeholders and ensuring that teams at all levels receive the attention and support to thrive.
As the 2023/2024 Women’s Championship approaches, the spotlight will be on Ibom Angels FC to see if they can rise to the challenge and secure their place in the First Division.
