Former South African coach Pitso Mosimane has lifted the lid on his potential involvement with the Nigerian national team, revealing informal discussions with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) before they appointed Finidi George.

Mosimane, a highly respected figure in African football with a CAF Champions League title under his belt, acknowledged his interest in the talented Super Eagles squad. “Super Eagles, what a team they have,” he remarked to Metro FM’s Sports Night Amplified.

However, Mosimane emphasized the lack of a formal offer despite conversations with the NFF. “The calls were coming, the talks were there,” he revealed. He went on to disclose the involvement of legendary Nigerian player Jay-Jay Okocha: “Jay Jay Okocha was leading this thing and begging me,” Mosimane said.

While Okocha reportedly championed Mosimane’s candidacy, the decorated coach himself stressed the importance of a concrete contract. “There was never a deal on the table, it was just talks,” he explained. “This one calls and calls from the Federation. In football, the contract must be on the table and sign it. If that is not really happening, there is no deal,” he concluded.
