Sevilla have officially announced the signing of Nigerian winger Chidera Ejuke on a free transfer following a successful medical examination.
The deal was completed on Monday, June 17, 2024, and will see the former CSKA man joining the Andalusian side after his recent stints in Norway, Russia, Germany and Belgium.
Career Background
Ejuke, a versatile attacker known for his ability to play on both wings, returns to one of Europe’s top-five leagues after spending the previous season on loan at Royal Antwerp. During his time in Belgium, he made a notable impact with five goals and six assists in 39 appearances, including four outings in the Champions League. Prior to that, Ejuke had a loan spell at Hertha Berlin in the 2022-2023 season, following his decision to suspend his contract with CSKA Moscow under FIFA regulations due to the ongoing geopolitical situation.
Signing Details
While the specific terms of Ejuke’s contract with Sevilla were not disclosed by the club, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that the 26-year-old signed a three-year deal with the LaLiga side. This strategic acquisition aims to bolster Sevilla’s attacking options as they look to improve their standing in domestic and European competitions.

Fit and Potential Impact
Ejuke is expected to add significant value to Sevilla’s offensive lineup. Primarily a left winger, his versatility allows him to play on the right flank or as a second striker, making him a flexible option for manager José Luis Mendilibar. Ejuke’s dribbling skills, pace, and creativity will be crucial in Sevilla’s tactical setups, whether in a 4-4-2 formation or a more dynamic 4-2-3-1 system.
National Team Contributions
Ejuke made his debut for the Nigerian national team in October 2020 during a friendly against Tunisia. Since then, he has earned a total of eight caps for the Super Eagles. His last appearance for the national team was in the Africa Cup of Nations group-stage match against Guinea-Bissau on January 19, 2022.
Context of the Transfer
This signing comes on the same day that Sevilla announced the departure of veteran defender Sergio Ramos, who left the club after a year following his return from Paris Saint-Germain. The addition of Ejuke is part of Sevilla’s broader strategy to rejuvenate their squad and compete more effectively in LaLiga and European competitions.
