Report: Victor Osimhen may not play for Nigeria again

There is a report that Victor Osimhen may not play for Nigeria again if he does not issue an apology for his recent outburst against former Super Eagles coach, Finidi George.

Per OwnGoal.Nigeria, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to charge Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen for improper conduct following his verbal attack on former national team coach Finidi George. Osimhen’s outburst was in response to reports suggesting that Finidi had questioned his commitment to the team.

Finidi resigned as the Super Eagles coach last Friday after the NFF announced plans to appoint an expatriate coach. Osimhen, who missed Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic (which they drew 1-1 and lost 1-2 respectively), reacted angrily to the reports, expressing his frustration publicly.

NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau has already spoken with Osimhen about his outburst, and Finidi has also reached out to the player. A board member of the NFF explained to Owngoal Nigeria.com that the reports Osimhen reacted to were fake and misleading and that Osimhen did not confirm the information before reacting.

“Already the president of the NFF Ibrahim Musa Gusau has spoken with Osimhen over his outburst and Finidi also reached out to him. The report he reacted to is fake and misleading,sadly he didn’t confirm bofore reacting”, a board member of the NFF told Owngoal Nigeria.com.

“Osimhen is a role model and the only way we can help the incoming coach stamp his authority is by using him to set example. He crossed the line with his outburst even when Finidi called him to explain he still didn’t doom it fit to retract his statements. We won’t condone that and after the Salah break, we will sit on the issue. I can tell you he won’t be in the team until he says sorry for his actions”, he concluded.
