Following the end of the 2023-24 season, during which Akwa United players and officials took a break, the team is gearing up for the upcoming season set to start on August 31.
Akwa United’s first match will be against Lobi Stars of Makurdi at Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi, which will serve as Lobi Stars’ adopted home ground for the season.
The Team Manager emphasized the urgency of the resumption: “All players and officials are to report to the training ground on Saturday, July 27, to begin intensive preparations for the upcoming football season.
“With the fixtures released by the league organizers, we don’t have the luxury of time, so we need to return to camp and start our preparations and planning for the new season,” he remarked per the club website.
The 2021 champions, Akwa United, are looking to build on their previous successes and make a strong start in the new NPFL season.
Already, the club has signed new players to replace the likes of Sani Suleiman, who is set to join a European club this week. Additionally, an open screening is ongoing at the Uyo Township Stadium for players who competed in the Nigeria National League during the 2023/2024 campaign.
