Nigerian international Kelechi Nwakali has made a move to League One club Barnsley, leaving behind the Portuguese sunshine for the challenge of England’s third tier.
The 26-year-old midfielder has signed a three-year deal with the Tykes, following his departure from Chaves due to disciplinary issues.
Nwakali’s New Challenge
Barnsley announced the signing on their social media, stating: “Barnsley Football Club are delighted to confirm the signing of Nigerian International midfielder Kelechi Nwakali from G.D Chaves for an undisclosed fee, subject to visa and international clearance.”
Nwakali first gained prominence after winning the Golden Ball at the 2015 U17 World Cup and later moved to Arsenal. His career has since taken him through various European clubs, including Huesca, Alcorcón, and Ponferradina, with recent loan spells in Spain.

In his new role, Nwakali expressed his determination to make an impact at Barnsley: “In my career, I need to prove a point again. Coming here, it’s time to prove myself to the world and have an impact on the club.”
