Fulham star Alex Iwobi has revealed how his childhood friend and Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina played a significant role in shaping his football career. In a heartwarming reflection on their early days, Iwobi shared how Aina’s influence helped him develop his skills, particularly in using his left foot.

Growing up in London, Iwobi and Aina were neighbors and reunited at a park in Essex to reminisce about their childhood experiences. The conversation, featured on Ola Aina’s YouTube channel, highlighted the strong bond between the two players, who are part of the London-raised Super Eagles group known as the “Innit Boys.”

Iwobi, who was born in Lagos but relocated to England as a child, credited Aina for helping him improve his left foot. “I learned to use my left foot because of him. Back then, he used to bully my left foot. He was good with both feet and could use them at the same level. So he’d get me out, practice constantly, teach me techniques, and make sure I hit the ball accurately,” Iwobi said.

The Fulham star also shared how Aina’s strength and competitiveness motivated him to work harder and improve his game. “We played against each other several times in our separate academies. I poked him in his eyes because he was stronger than me, and it was a struggle for me, but it motivated me as well to keep growing and improving myself.”

Iwobi and Aina’s friendship is a testament to the power of camaraderie and support in football. Their experiences growing up together, playing for different academies, and eventually representing Nigeria have created a strong bond between them.

The new Premier League season approaches and Iwobi and Aina will be looking to make an impact with their respective teams. Iwobi, who has been impressive in pre-season, will be eager to continue his fine form, while Aina will be looking to establish himself at Nottingham Forest.
