Real Sociedad have launched a renewed effort to rebuild Nigerian forward Umar Sadiq’s confidence and reputation as the club’s key striker.
After a summer filled with uncertainty and transfer speculation, where Sadiq struggled to attract serious interest from other clubs, Real Sociedad’s president, Jokin Aperribay, has decided to focus on reintegrating the player into the squad rather than pursuing a transfer.
The decision to retain Sadiq comes as the transfer window approaches its end. Aperribay recognizes the importance of working closely with Sadiq to maximize his potential. Despite a season where Sadiq failed to reach his best form, the club appears committed to giving him another chance to prove he can fill the crucial No. 9 role that Real Sociedad desperately needs.

Sadiq joined Real Sociedad in 2022 after an impressive stint at Almeria, where his goals helped the club secure promotion to La Liga. He made a promising start at Real Sociedad, scoring on his debut against Atlético Madrid shortly after his arrival. However, his momentum was halted by a severe injury during a La Liga match against Getafe, sidelining him for the rest of the season.
During the 2023–24 campaign, Sadiq made a gradual return to action, scoring his first goal of the season in a victory over Sevilla and adding another spectacular strike against Osasuna. Unfortunately, the season ended in disappointment as Sadiq managed only three goals and one assist in 26 league appearances.
Real Sociedad is now determined to help the 27-year-old striker regain his best form as they aim to improve on their sixth-place finish in La Liga last season.
