Samad Khadiri’s 53rd-minute penalty ensured Enyimba extended their unbeaten record against neighbours Abia Warriors in a keenly contested Abia Derby at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba on Tuesday.
Referee Ferdinand Udo pointed to the spot after Abia Warrior’s Fatai Abdullahi handled the ball in the box and striker Samad sends goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke the wrong way to earn his side maximum points.
The win extended Enyimba’s dominance in the Abia Derby to five in five matches, with Abia Warriors yet to record a single win against their local rival in the NPFL.
Enyimba went close to scoring in the first half with Orok Gabriel and Samad coming closed with freekicks on the edge of the box.
Sadiq Abubakar had a golden chance in the 27th minute after he was sent through by Orok, but goalkeeper Olurunleke made a superb save to deny him a goal.
Abia Warriors are yet to win an NPFL game against Enyimba, losing all five (5) matches since they were promoted to the top flight.
