Akor Adams

Akor Adams bagged a brace as Montpellier defeated fourth division club Entente Feignies Aulnoye 4-0 to reach the French Cup round of 16 on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

Nigerian forward Akor Adams scored his first of the game in the 73rd minute to put Montpellier 2-0 up and before adding a second in the 92nd minute to make it 4-0.

Aside getting two goals, Adams provided the assist for Montpellier’s third goal scored in the 90th minute.

Heading into Wednesday’s game, Adams was facing a two months goal drought, he last scored on 29th October 2023,  a brace in the 3-0 win against Toulouse in the league.

The 23-year-old former Flying Eagles striker failed to score in 10 consecutive games before ending the drought against the French fourth division side.

Akor Adams has scored seven goals in eighteen appearances in the French Ligue 1 this season and was heavily tipped to make the Nigeria national team squad for the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cote d’Ivoire but head coach Jose Peseiro stuck with more established forwards for the championship.

Meanwhile, Montpellier will host Terem Moffi’s OGC Nice in the round of 16 of the French Cup scheduled to take place on 7th February, 2024.

In history, Montpellier have only won the French Cup twice in their history – in 1929 and 1990, a drought Adams and his teammates will hope to erase this season.
