Akwa United Chairman shows support for grassroots tournament in Uyo

The Chairman of Akwa United FC, Elder Paul Bassey, has shown support via a cash donation for a grassroots tournament ongoing in Uyo.

On Friday, July 12, 2024, Elder Paul Bassey was present at the Uyo Township Stadium, venue for the Immortality/Executive Sports Management Championship.

Elder Paul Bassey hailed Prophet Ubong James, the CEO of Immortality FC, for organizing the championship, which features sixteen top football academies in Akwa Ibom State. He went on to make a cash donation of one hundred thousand naira in support of the championship.

The competition, which has been ongoing for two weeks, has received support from other football stakeholders, such as Agent Paul Ojo, who made a cash donation of one hundred thousand naira, and Blessed Stars Academy General Manager, Moses Ukpong, who contributed fifty thousand naira in support of the championship.

The 2024 Immortality/Executive Sports Management Championship features sixteen teams split into two groups. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the semi-final scheduled to take place next week.

After six rounds of matches in each group, Blessed Stars Football Academy occupies the top spot in Group A, following six wins from their six games. The Coach Ubong Vincent-tutored Blessed Stars have booked their place in the semi-final. New Flame Academy is second on the log, with Immortality FC in close chase for the group’s other semi-final spot.

In Group B, Maccito Solution leads the way with sixteen points, while defending champions Eagle Eyes Academy sit in second place ahead of the final round of group stage matches.

Apart from his cash support, Akwa United chairman Elder Paul Bassey also urged talented players spotted at the championship to avail themselves of the Akwa United screening exercise scheduled for Monday, July 15, 2024, to test their might and possibly earn a move to play for the 2021 Nigerian champions.
