Al Hilal arrives Nigeria, ready to battle Rivers United

Sudanese side Al Hilal Omdurman has arrived in the country ahead of the opening leg of the CAF Champions League first round against Nigeria’s Rivers United.

The club has been closed camping in Cairo, Egypt, in preparation for the crucial first-leg match.

Al Hilal overcame Ethiopian team Fasil Kenema to go to the next round, where they will face Rivers United, who defeated Tanzanian club Young Africans.

The Sudanese champion flew out of Egypt in the early hours of Thursday and landed at Lagos’ Murtala Airport, where they will connect with another flight to the match’s venue in Rivers state.

Rivers United has received the sum of One Hundred Thousand dollars (N41,085,000 million) from Governor Nyesom Wike which was promised to them by the governor for their victory over Young Africans of Tanzania in the first preliminary round.

Wike has also promised the team another $100,000 if they beat Al Hilal and book a place in the money-spinning group stages of the CAF Champions League.

The match will take place on Sunday, October 17 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Rivers State.
