Nigeria international, Taiwo Awoniyi was in action for Mainz 05 who ended their winless run with a 2-0 away win against Eintracht Frankfurt in Saturday’s Bundesliga match, The Athletic NG reports.
Going into Saturday’s game, Mainz 05 failed to secure a victory in their last five matches with their last victory coming in February, in a 2-0 win against Paderborn.
Moussa Niakhate opened the scoring for Mainz 05 on the 43rd minute before Pierre Kunde doubled the lead in 77 minutes.
Awoniyi who saw action for 90 minutes made his 11th appearances for Mainz 05 this season.
The win put Mainz 05 in 15th position with 31 points, one place above the relegation play-off spot.
Elsewhere, Super Eagles left-back, Jamilu Collins played full 90 minutes for struggling Paderborn who held 10-man RB Leipzig to a 1-1 draw.
Patrick Schick put Leipzig 1-0 ahead in the 27th minute before Christian Strohdiek snatched a late equaliser on 90 minutes.
Leipzig were reduced to 10 men after Dayot Upamecano was shown a second yellow card.
It was the 26th Bundesliga appearances for the Nigeria international this season for Paderborn.
Paderborn have now gone 11 consecutive games without a win; securing five draws and six defeats .
Paderborn remain rooted to the bottom in 18th position in the log with 20 points after 30 Bundesliga games.
