Super Eagles and Remo Stars goalkeeper, Bankole Kayode, has shared his excitement and determination after being named in the final 23-man squad for Nigeria’s upcoming World Cup qualifying matches.
However, the 22-year-old shot-stopper emphasized that his approach to the game will remain the same, regardless of the higher level of competition.
Eric Chelle, who took over as the head coach of the Super Eagles a few months ago, recently unveiled his final squad for Nigeria’s upcoming fixtures. The list, which followed an initial 39-man provisional squad, includes Bankole, a player known for his exceptional consistency and strong performances with NPFL side, Remo Stars.

In an exclusive interview with Premium Times, Bankole expressed his gratitude for the call-up, which he described as a dream come true.

The young goalkeeper, who has been a standout for Remo Stars under coach Daniel Ogunmodede, acknowledged the support of his teammates and loved ones following the announcement.
“I was very happy. I was very excited when I got the news. It’s a dream come true for me. My teammates were happy for me, and my loved ones reached out to congratulate me. It was an emotional moment, for sure,” Bankole said.
When asked how he would approach the possibility of stepping onto the field for Nigeria, Bankole, who has been a key figure for his club, downplayed any concerns about the potential differences in the level of play.
“Well, if I’m called up to play, I’ll approach it the same way I’ve been doing for my team. I’ll continue to organise the defence, communicate well, and direct my teammates the same way I always do. Football is the same everywhere, and while the level may be different, the key is to stay calm and communicate effectively,” he explained.
Bankole also made it clear that he would contribute to the Super Eagles in any capacity, whether from the bench or on the field. His goal is to give 100% for the team and to learn as much as possible during his time with the national squad.
“I’m here to give my all and help the team in any way I can. I also want to learn and improve as a player. This is an opportunity I don’t take for granted, and I’ll give my best effort, as I always do at my club,” he concluded.
The Super Eagles will face Rwanda in Kigali on March 21, before returning to the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo to take on Zimbabwe four days later. These fixtures are crucial for Nigeria, who are aiming to bounce back from a difficult start in the World Cup qualifying campaign.
