Bendel Insurance have pipped Enyimba to Group A top spot after the Edo based team overcame a resurgent Finidi George’s team to claim a 1-o victory at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
The newly promoted team have now ended the first stanza of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Premier League abridged league format unbeaten having won seven games, draw two in nine games.
Imade Osehenkhoe who is the leading goal scorer for Monday Odigie’s side opened the goal scoring in the 29th minute of the encounter with the goal proving decisive as Enyimba couldn’t find an equalizer.
Enyimba are now placed second behind Bendel Insurance on the same amount of games played and seven points behind the league leaders who are on 23 points.
Having gained promotion from the Nigeria National League (NNL), they have taken the league by storm with a stunning curtain raiser result against Akwa United.
They defeated the 2019 NPFL champions 0-2 right in front of their owns fans in Uyo to begin their campaign. They will be looking to keep the momentum when the league second phase continues.
The league winners who will be going home with a cash prize reward of N100m will be decided by a ‘Super Six’ game.
