Super Eagles forward Paul Onuachu test positive for Coronavirus

Genk striker Paul Onuachu has become the first Super Eagles player to test positive for the novel coronavirus.

According to Het Laaste Niuews, in preparation for the first practice match of the season, the entire Genk group where tested yesterday, everyone tested negative only the Nigerian returned positive.

Onuachu recently returned to his base Belguim from Nigeria due to delay as the airspace in Nigeria remained closed for a long time.

The striker will miss Genk’s pre-season friendly game tomorrow against Eendracht Termien, a game fellow Nigerians at the Club, Cyril Dessers and Stephen Odey will get to feature.

The 26-year-old is quarantine after the positive test result.

Last weekend, a practice match between Waasland-Beveren and KV Mechelen was cancelled after a player of Waasland-Beveren tested positive for coronavirus.

Onuachu capped 7 times for Nigeria, played 29 games last season and scored 10 goals and bagged 2 assists.

The 2020/2021 Belgian league will kick off next month after the 2019/2020 season was ended due to COVID-19 and Club Brugge crowned champions.
