Enugu Rangers, the NPFL champions, have departed for Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, ahead of their highly anticipated CAF Champions League preliminary round match against US Zilimadjou, the champions of Comoros Island. The team arrived in Uyo on Wednesday, August 14, to acclimate and engage in pre-match training activities before the crucial encounter on Sunday.

According to Amobi Ezeaku, the club’s chairman who spoke exclusively to theathletic.com.ng, the team will participate in a media tour of Uyo and a pre-match conference on Saturday, as part of their preparations. This strategic move aims to ensure the team is fully focused and ready for the challenge ahead.

The match, scheduled for Sunday at 4 pm at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, marks the beginning of Enugu Rangers’ CAF Champions League campaign. Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu expressed his confidence in the team’s preparedness, stating, “The team is gradually getting to the level required to challenge positively in the CAF Champions League.”

The return leg will still be played at the same venue a week after.
Playing both legs of the preliminary round in Nigeria is seen as a significant advantage, reducing stress on the team.
