CAFCC: ‘We are not down’ – Ifeanyi Anaemena

Rivers United centre back, Ifeanyi Anaemena said his team is not down following their 2-1 defeat to Futuro Kings on Saturday in the CAF Confederation Cup Preliminary round.

Rivers United must overturn the 2-1 loss if the team must advance to the first round of the CAF Confederations Cup.

Anaemena, who joined Rivers United in the summer transfer window from Enyimba, acknowledged his teammates are disappointed but they have what it takes to overturn it in the second leg.

“We are not actually down,” Ifeanyi Anaemena told Rivers United media at Mongomo.

“The game ended 2-1 and if we can win 1-0 or 2-0 we are going to qualify.

“It’s a matter for us to psych ourselves, motivate ourselves, go home and make sure that we get a positive result that will overturn this result we have here. So we have not lost hope, we are going to get a better result.”

Futuro Kings scored two goals in the first leg thanks to Nkama Gregoire’s brace, but midfielder Godwin Aguda gave Rivers United a lifeline with a 77th minute penalty to give his team an all important away goal.

Rivers United will host Futuro Kings in the second leg on Sunday, December 6 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
