Chippa United coach confirms Stanley Nwabali exit

Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali

Chippa United’s goalkeeper coach, Sean Louw, has confirmed that Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali will not be returning to the South African club for the upcoming season.

This development follows Nwabali’s impressive performances both at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and in domestic competitions.

Nwabali’s AFCON Impact

Nwabali played a crucial role in Nigeria’s journey to the AFCON final earlier this year, where the Super Eagles ultimately fell to the hosts, Ivory Coast. His standout performances at the tournament have significantly raised his profile.

Domestic Achievements

In addition to his international exploits, Nwabali was instrumental in Chippa United’s successful run to the Nedbank Cup semi-final. His efforts between the posts led to a commendable 12 clean sheets in all competitions, showcasing his reliability and skill as a goalkeeper.

Rising Interest and Offers

Louw highlighted the growing interest in the 27-year-old goalkeeper. “On physical hard copy paper, I don’t know how many offers he has received, but verbally, he has around 10 or even 12 offers. He is definitely not coming back to Chippa next season,” Louw told FarPost.

Development and Future Prospects

Reflecting on Nwabali’s time at Chippa United, Louw praised the goalkeeper’s development, particularly in terms of his footwork. “When [Nwabali] arrived at Chippa, he wasn’t very proficient with his footwork, unable to play from the back. However, he has improved his footwork significantly,” Louw noted.

A New Chapter for Chippa United

Nwabali’s departure represents a significant change for Chippa United, as they will need to find a new goalkeeper to fill the void left by one of their key players. The club will undoubtedly miss his contributions, but Nwabali’s career appears set for new and exciting challenges, given the substantial interest he has attracted from other clubs.

As Nwabali prepares to move on, his performances for both club and country have solidified his reputation as a top-tier goalkeeper, making him a highly sought-after talent in the football world.
