Super Eagles Forward Cyriel Dessers and former flying Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke are both faced with the possibility of their Eredivisie season being cancelled due to outbreak of the Coronavirus Crisis.

The Dutch Football Association “intends not to continue” the Eredivisie season after the national government extended a ban on major events until 1st of September because of coronavirus pandemic.

Eredivisie clubs will meet this week to discuss how to deal with the Dutch government banning all football until the start of September because of coronavirus.

The decision was made by Prime Minister Mark Rutte to extend the country’s ban on major events for over five months, although schools in the Netherlands are reopening after the May holiday period.

Banning all major events until September effectively cancels the 2019/20 Dutch football season, though the KNVB, who govern football in the Netherlands, have not yet made a concrete decision to declare the campaign ended.

They will hold talks with UEFA over how to proceed, while clubs in Holland’s top-flight are to meet and assess how the season can be decided with no more matches to be played.

A KNVB statement read: “As a result [of the government’s decision], the board of professional football, which is formally about that, intends not to continue playing the 2019/20 competition.

“Based on the government’s decision today, the KNVB will consult with UEFA, after which the decision will be taken.”

Cyriel Dessers who plies his trade in Heracles was having his best ever Eredivisie season before the coronavirus pandemic hit Europe. He is currently the highest goal scorer in Holland’s topflight league with 15 goals.

Chidera Ejuke has also been on blistering form for Heereenven, with 16 goals contributions in 29 games (10 goals and 6 assists) before the season was hit by the pandemic.

The former Gombe United attacker was already on the radar of Ajax before the coronavirus crisis.
