COVID-19: Vandrezzer FC donates N2.5 million to SWAN, other sport groups

The management of Vandrezzer Football Club has donated the sum of N2,500,000 million to Football Writers Association, SWAN, and other sports groups in Nigeria as palliative to help cushion the effect of COVID-19 in the country.

In a release on the club’s official website and signed by the management of the club on Friday, May 29, the Nigeria National League, NNL, side says the donation is part of the team’s Corporate Social Responsibility.

The donation is targeted at “Nigeria football players, sports journalists, and a State Football body.”

The N2.5 million palliative is to be shared equally (N500,000) each among the five bodies as stipulated in the statement.

“In a bid to cushion the effect and economic difficulties caused by the spread of the COVID-19, the Management of Vandrezzer Football Club has as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility and charitable givings for 2020, identified and donated cash palliatives to some sports bodies and communities in Nigeria. Members of these bodies who benefitted from the palliative include ex-Nigeria football players, sports journalists, and a State Football body.

“Vandrezzer FC through the Trustees of Vandrezzer FC foundation approved the sum of Two Million Five hundred thousand Naira as a palliative to be shared among five different sport communities at Five hundred thousand Naira each, to help cushion the economic difficulty caused by the restrictions put in place due to coronavirus pandemic. 

“The Beneficiaries include: Akwa Ibom Football Association, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Akwa-Ibom Chapter, T&T Network (a forum of ex-internationals), NSM Rebranded (forum of journalists & administrators), and Friends United by Football (football supporters & stakeholders).”

The club recently donated cartons of hand sanitizers and other protective equipment needed by frontline health workers in the fight against the novel coronavirus to the Lagos State and Akwa Ibom State governments.

VFC also extended the gesture to schools, hospitals, and orphanages in some local government areas in Akwa Ibom State. 

Vandrezzer Football Club is a Nigerian professional team based in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State. The club, founded on September 11, 2019, is owned and managed by Vandrezzer Energy Limited.

The company purchased playing right for Vandrezzer FC in Nigeria’s second-tier division, Nigeria National League (NNL) in 2019, with the intent of advancing to the top flight Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Nicknamed ‘The Lions of Naija”, Vandrezzer FC plays its home matches at the Ikot Ikpene Township Stadium in Akwa Ibom State and is the most followed football club in Nigeria.
