Nigeria’s men’s U-19 cricket team, the Junior Yellow Greens, have achieved a remarkable feat by securing promotion to Division 1 of the African Qualifiers. The team defeated Rwanda by seven wickets in the third-place match of the Division 2 qualifiers, held in Tanzania on Sunday.

Rwanda won the toss and elected to bat first, but were bowled out for 45 runs in 23.4 overs. Nigeria’s captain, Gafar Kareem, led the bowling charge, delivering 5.4 overs and conceding just eight runs while taking four wickets.

In response, Nigeria chased down the target of 46 runs with ease, losing just three wickets in 12.3 overs. This convincing victory earned Nigeria the third spot, alongside Sierra Leone and hosts Tanzania, in the next phase of the qualifiers.

The Junior Yellow Greens had earlier suffered a setback in the semi-finals, losing to Sierra Leone by nine wickets. However, they bounced back in style, setting a tournament record with a commanding win over Mozambique. They posted the highest total of the tournament, scoring 362 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 50 overs.

This promotion to Division 1 is a significant milestone for Nigeria’s U-19 cricket team, and they will look to build on this success in the next phase of the qualifiers. The team’s performance has shown great promise, and they will be eager to continue their winning streak.
