Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has become a top transfer target for Serie A side Cagliari as they fight to avoid relegation.
Dessers, 30, has found himself in a difficult position at Rangers, where his lack of game time has fueled speculation about a possible exit.
Initially the first-choice striker for the Scottish club, Dessers lost his starting spot in November 2024 to Moroccan forward Hamza Igamane, following fan criticism of his scoring record.
Since then, Dessers has started just one match for Rangers, with Igamane thriving in his absence.
The Nigerian has scored 12 goals with 4 assists in 30 games this season.
The Moroccan has scored ten goals and provided two assists in his last eleven appearances, solidifying his place in the lineup and making Dessers surplus to requirements.
While French Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne has shown interest in signing the former Genk forward, Serie A’s Cagliari has now entered the race.
Italian journalist Rudy Galetti reports that Cagliari is seriously considering Dessers as a potential solution to their attacking woes.

This isn’t the first time the Nigerian international has been linked with the Sardinian club. Last summer, Cagliari expressed interest in signing Dessers, but the deal fell through.
Now, with Rangers reportedly open to letting him go for the right price, a move to Italy could be back on the cards.

Cagliari, currently 17th in Serie A and only outside the relegation zone on goal difference, are desperate for reinforcements to strengthen their survival bid.
The striker is no stranger to Serie A, having played for Cremonese last season, though his time there ended in relegation.
As the January transfer window heats up, all eyes will be on Dessers and whether a return to Italy could mark the next chapter in his career.
