Dakkada FC boosts hope of survival with win over Katsina United

Israel Emmanuel and Unwana Asuquo gave Dakkada FC a boost against Katsina United in their quest to survive relegation from the Nigeria Professional Football Lague (NPFL).

Dakkada FC beat Katsina United 2-0 on Saturday, June 2, 2022 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in one of the remaining three matches of the current season.

Emmanuel gave the host the lead with a thumping header in the 7th minute from Aniekan Ekpe’s corner kick to settle the early nerves.

Right back Unwana Asuquo scored the second on the overlap from the right after captain Ekpe found his run with a well-timed through ball to extend the lead in the 61st minute.

The Chosen Ones had chances to increase their lead but ensured they went home with a needed three points and a clean sheet.

Dakkada lost last weekend in Makurdi against Lobi Stars and have protested the result of their rescheduled fixture against Kano Pillars two weeks ago which ended in controversy.

Although the win has not lifted them higher up the table, it has taken them to 43 points, level with Niger Tornadoes who are travelling to Lagos to face MFM FC on Sunday.

Dakkada head coach, Umar Danlami praised his team and is happy they converted some of the chances to win the game.

“The two sides played very well in a highly tactical game, we anticipated that from the game, and we tried to give all in the game.

“We had a lot of chances that we couldn’t convert and we expect such in any game. We have a very youthful side with youthful exuberance, this is a young team, if we keep creating chances, then we have hope of scoring.

“Today, we had our chances and we took some and that made the difference. We will continue to work hard, the team needs guidance.”

Dakkada FC will travel to Aba on Sunday, June 10, 2022 to face Enyimba who are fighting for continental places.

Danlami believes anything is possible against the Peoples’ Elephant.

“Anything is possible,” Danlami said. “Winning there is doable, we have the confidence that we can do it. Enyimba came here, we know what they are capable of, even last season, we know what happened there and if we can replicate that again, hopefully, we can get something from the game.”
