David Luiz to miss Europa League clash with thigh injury

Arsenal Brazilian defender David Luiz is expected to miss Thursday night’s Europa League tie against Dundalk after picking up a thigh injury in the defeat to Leicester City.

Luiz came off minutes into the second half against Leicester City on Sunday after pulling up and falling to the floor when running back to defending.

The 33-year-old iced injury after the defeat and is still being assessed by Arsenal’s medical team to learn the extent of the damage.

The centre back, however, is expected to miss Thursday’s night’s game at home to Irish side Dundalk.

Speaking on Wednesday ahead of the meeting with the Irish club, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta confirmed David Luiz will miss the trip to Dundalk but will be assessed ahead of this weekend’s trip to Manchester United.

“There is no chance he will play against Dundalk. There is a big doubt for him to play at the weekend too.”

Fellow Brazilian Willian is also being assessed ahead of the match after missing the loss to Leicester City due to a calf issue.
