Defender Onome Ebi challenges Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum over Olympic Games selection

Veteran defender Onome Ebi has issued a direct challenge to Super Falcons Coach Randy Waldrum regarding her inclusion in the list for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Rumors surfaced on Monday suggesting that the American coach was unhappy about a player being imposed on him. Ebi responded strongly to these allegations on her social media, particularly through her WhatsApp status.

“Randy said I was begging him to include me in the Olympic team. He should come and say it in front of me,” Ebi stated emphatically.

Ebi compared her situation to that of Brazilian football legend Marta, who is set to participate in the Olympics as an honor for her contributions, noting that Marta will only play in a few games as a tribute to her career.

“Marta going to the Olympics is to honor her. She will only appear in a few games. That is how to honor people who want to leave the national team,” Ebi explained.

Ebi expressed frustration over her treatment by the national team management, highlighting the disrespect and challenges she has faced over the years.

“In my country, they will use insults to frustrate your life. They have been frustrating me since I was 36, 37, and 38, to leave the national team,” she added.

Ebi’s comments bring to light the ongoing issues within the Super Falcons camp and raise questions about the management and respect for veteran players within the team.
