The 18000 capacity Eket Stadium will host Akwa United FC Nigeria Premier Football League matches starting from this weekend’s clash vs 3SC of Ibadan.
This switch from the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo is due to hectic engagements expected at the 30000 capacity in the coming months.
The Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, AthleticNg confirms, will host Super Eagles of Nigeria World Cup qualification games, Rivers United FC CAF Confederation Cup matches and Africa Super League fixtures involving Enyimba FC.
Confirming the change of venue, Akwa United FC said it’s 2023/2024 NPFL matchday four clash vs 3SC of Ibadan will be played at the Eket Stadium on Sunday, October 22, 2023.
It will not be the first time Akwa United FC will be playing a league game at the Eket Stadium. Last season, the Promise Keepers hosted Plateau United FC at the facility.
The Eket Stadium has a Astro turf playing surface, unlike the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo which is laid with natural grass.
Akwa United FC will bank on the experience from closed door camping sessions in Eket plus friendly matches at the venue which will most likely serve as their home ground for the rest of the season.
This season , Akwa United FC have gathered a single point from three games to occupy 20th place on the standings.
Meanwhile, Nigeria National League club’s FC ONE Rocket and Vandrezzer FC last season used the Eket Stadium as their home ground.
With the 2023/2024 Nigeria National League season billed to kickoff on October 28, football fans in Eket are set to enjoy a busy schedule of football action.
