Emmanuel Ibah mourns Chidi Okenwa

The Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Football Association, Emmanuel Ibah has described the death of Chief Chidi Okenwa, who died of leukemia yesterday in Enugu as a nightmare to grassroots sports development in Nigeria.

Speaking to Passion FM Sports Correspondent, Favour Itua, Ibah says Okenwa’s sudden exit will affect plans which are already on ground to develop grassroots sports in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria.

“It is a nightmare, yesterday afternoon I got the information from Enugu, when I got the information I could not put myself together, trying to comprehend that my friend is no more because I spoke with him last week,” Ibah said.

He further stated that the former Enugu Football Association boss was a wonderful and reliable friend, whose ideas were changing the face of sports in Enugu State.

“He was a wonderful reliable friend of everybody, especially me, he did so much, you won’t believe I must confess that there were lots of things I needed to learn from Chidi, he has been the FA Chairman of Enugu for several years so it was only Enugu State that could have competition for Under 10, Under 13, Under 18 those are developmental levels even Under 15 he had a league that runs consistently because there were people in Enugu brands and companies that supported him.

“He even wanted to help extend to Akwa Ibom by bringing a potential sponsor but that is all gone”.

Emmanuel Ibah joined Nigeria’s football fraternity to mourn the death of the administrator who lived for only 50 years.
