Rangers International woo Ahmed Musa after NPFL hint

Nigerian champions Rangers International are eager to sign Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa, following his hint about returning to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Musa, 31, sparked excitement among fans on social media platform X by posting a photo of all NPFL clubs, asking which team he should join.

Rangers’ general manager, Amobi Ezeaku, and coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, quickly extended an invitation.

“I don’t know about it, but if truly he is going to come, it’s a welcome development,” Ilechukwu said. “Musa is a superstar, disciplined and a player everyone can work with. His image alone is good for us.”

Musa’s potential return to the NPFL has generated buzz, with many praising his decision to contribute to the league’s growth.

Although the NPFL 2024/25 summer transfer window has closed, Musa can join as a free agent.

“The Transfer Matching System allows him to register,” confirmed Sunday Obaseki, NPFL head of competitions.

Musa previously played for Kano Pillars in 2021 and 2009, winning the top scorer award with 18 goals before moving to VVV Venlo. His European stint included CSKA Moscow, Leicester City, and Al Nassr.

Musa’s presence would boost Rangers’ squad and inspire other Nigerian internationals to return to the league.

“His European experience and goal-scoring ability make him an asset,” Ilechukwu added. “He’ll motivate our players and attract more Nigeria internationals to the league.”

Rangers International, eight-time NPFL champions, are confident Musa will adapt seamlessly.

“Rangers is a big club with capacity to welcome players from all over,” Ilechukwu said. “Many northerners are already in our team, so he won’t feel lonely.”

Musa has been without a club since February, after terminating his contract with Sivasspor in Turkey.

Rangers’ interest in Musa highlights the NPFL’s growing appeal. A successful transfer would bolster the league’s reputation and attract top talent.
