Enyimba and Akwa United are in talks to sign Shooting Stars midfielder, Anietie Uko during the current mid-season break.
Anietie Uko joined Shooting Stars last season from Vandrezzer FC and was a mainstay in Edith Agoye’s team, and helped the Oluyole Warriors maintain their status in the then Nigeria Professional Football League (now Nigeria Premier Football League – NPFL).
Enyimba are looking to bolster their squad ahead of the second half of the season, and coach Finidi George has identified the Akwa Ibom-born midfield maestro as a target for the former African champions.
The People’s Elephant are second on the NPFL table with 16 points, seven behind surprised leaders, Bendel Insurance.
Akwa United, who have held talks with the player and his representatives, have expressed their interest following their 2-2 draw with Shooting Stars in Ibadan on February 19, 2023.
The Athletic NG understands that the Chairman of Akwa United, Elder Paul Bassey has informed Uko of his desire to bring him back to Uyo this season with the Promise Keepers pushing for one of the playoff spots and continental places in Group A.
Anietie Uko had six goalscoring contributions in 26 appearances (1 goal and 5 assists) for Shooting Stars last season in his first season in the NPFL and has registered one assist in six appearances so far this season.
Shooting Stars considers Uko as a key part of their season with Gbenga Ogunbote looking to improve on the current seventh position on the table.
The former Nigeria Under-17 international is understood to be keen on a move having found himself on the bench three times already this season.
