Eric Chelle has revealed that the opportunity to manage the Super Eagles of Nigeria was one he simply could not turn down.
The former defender was officially named head coach of the three-time African champions earlier this week, marking a new chapter in his managerial career.
To take up the role, Chelle is stepping down as head coach of Algerian club MC Oran, a position he has held since in October 2024.

Chelle’s final match in charge of MC Oran came on Saturday in a tightly contested Algeria Cup clash against ES Sétif.
His team secured a narrow 1-0 victory, with Chelle bidding an emotional farewell to the club and its supporters.

Speaking to the media after the game, the 47-year-old expressed gratitude to the MC Oran community, saying, “I thank the Hamraoua fans, the inhabitants of Oran, and all Algerians for their welcome and support. The MCO will always have a special place in my heart.”

Reflecting on his decision to leave, Chelle explained, “This is my last meeting with you, marking the end of my adventure here. From Monday, I will be in Nigeria to start a new chapter. The MCO officials wanted me to stay, but one cannot refuse the chance to lead one of the best teams in Africa and the world.”
Chelle is expected to arrive in Nigeria on Sunday, with his official unveiling as the Super Eagles head coach scheduled for Monday.
