Former Nigeria U-23 international, Daniel Essien Etor who plays for Muscat Football Club in Oman Professional League in a bid to settle the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) debate, says Barcelona captain Lionel Messi is a better player compared to Juventus superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Etor in an interview with journalists on Friday, May 1, said that the world is lucky to witness the two players playing at the same time, but believes Messi is a more rounded player.

“I have so many players I look up to in football, but between Ronaldo and Messi, I give it to Messi. Ronaldo is a beast, Messi makes football look easy even though it is very difficult, he creates chances, score goals, and provide assists. So for me, he is a better player.”

The former Enyimba attacker also believes the Portuguese captain has gotten to where he is through years of training and hard work.

“Ronaldo got to where he is through hard work, training upon training, he wanted to be better than the way he was the previous season but Messi was born with pure talent, he just needed a platform to showcase it.

“We are just lucky to witness these two geniuses compete against each other. Whether they like it or not, both of them are being pushed by each other’s performances.

“Here in Africa, I like Mahrez, he is just a great left footed player.”

Daniel Etor won the Omani top-flight league and the King’s Cup with Al Nasr SC and also featured in the Asian championship before joining Muscat, but says the league is not different from the Nigerian league.

“The Oman league is tough and rough; the sun is like living in Maiduguri and not much different from the Nigerian league. The only difference is that little pay and the television right, covering about 80% of their league matches.

The 26-year old further stated that he has always supported FC Barcelona and will be proud to play for the team.

“If I have the opportunity to play in Europe, I will love to play for Barcelona. I am a big fan of the club and will want to play for the team before I retire,” Etor said.

The GOAT debate between the pair will rumble on as both players continue to dominate.
