EXCLUSIVE! Akwa United signs Mfon Udoh, 8 others

Akwa United has re-signed striker Mfon Udoh for the third time ahead of the start of 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, season on Sunday.

Mfon Udoh first joined Akwa United in 2012 from Calabar Rovers before moving to former NPFL champions, Enyimba a year later, winning the NPFL title in 2015 with the Peoples’ Elephant.

The 28-year old rejoined the Promise Keepers for a spell in January 2019 and moved to FC Tulsa in the USA this year, after which he suffered series of injuries till his return to Nigeria to rejoin Akwa United for a third time.

Akwa United on Thursday just before the Christmas posted a team photograph for the 2020/21 NPFL season at the Nest of Champions which included the eight new players.

Chairman of the Club, Elder Paul Bassey last month said the club’s priority this season is to win the NPFL title and Aiteo Cup, with the club signing nine new players.

Striker Uche Sabastine has joined the Uyo-based club from FC Ifeanyi Ubah following an impressive campaign last season.

Midfielder Stephen Amos has also joined the club from Aiteo Cup holders Kano Pillars; while young midfielder, Samuel Amadi has joined from NPFL side Warri Wolves.

Akwa United has also captured former captain of FC Ifeanyi Ubah, Uche Okafor. The centre-back played in all matches for Ifeanyi Ubah and will hope to form a defensive partnership with Olisa Ndah.

Striker Charles Atshimene joins from Warri Wolves; 24-year-old winger Inemesit Sunday joins from Ibom Youth FC; while 23-year-old Ghanaian striker Abas Saddick has joined from Enugu Rangers.

Attacking midfielder Seth Mayi joins from Plateau United to bolster the midfield option of Coach Kennedy Boboye and will be tasked with the creativity responsibilities of the team while also linking up with the like Morice Chukwu and Ubong Essien.

Akwa United will begin the new season in the Ibom Derby on Sunday, December 27, 2020 against Dakkada FC at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium by 4pm.
