Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum has called up Utah Royals star Ifeoma Onumonu to replace the injured Halimatu Ayinde ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Nigeria aims to make a significant impact in the women’s football competition at the Paris Olympics later this month. Coach Waldrum initially revealed his squad of 18 players, with four additional players on the standby list. Among the primary squad members was experienced midfield general Halimatu Ayinde.
However, just a day after the announcement, Ayinde revealed on social media that she was injured and would not be available for the tournament.
In response, Waldrum has named Ifeoma Onumonu as Ayinde’s replacement. According to the Super Falcons’ X page, the Utah Royals forward will now join the team.

Onumonu, who has extensive experience playing for the Super Falcons, made her debut for the nine-time African champions in 2021. She has also participated in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup.
Born and raised in the United States, Onumonu has played for several clubs, including Boston Breakers, Portland Thorns, Reign FC, and Gotham FC. The 30-year-old forward recently joined Utah Royals from Gotham FC this year.
The Super Falcons are looking to Onumonu’s experience and skill to bolster their squad as they compete in the upcoming Olympic Games.
