Falconets set to take off for U-20 world cup in Colombia

The Nigerian U20 women’s football team, the Falconets, is gearing up for their departure to Colombia on August 18 to compete in the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup. This year’s tournament marks a significant milestone, as 24 teams will participate for the first time, with Nigeria, Morocco, Cameroon, and Ghana representing Africa.

The Falconets have been training in Abuja since July 7, preparing to face stiff competition in Group D alongside Germany, Venezuela, and the Korea Republic. With a strong track record of qualifying for every edition of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup and reaching the finals twice, finishing as runners-up to Germany in 2010 and 2014, the team is poised to make a statement in Colombia.

The tournament, scheduled from August 31 to September 22, will be hosted across four venues in three Colombian cities: Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali. Matches will be played at Estadio El Campín and Estadio El Techo in Bogotá, Estadio Atanasio Girardot in Medellín, and Estadio Pascual Guerrero in Cali.
