Nigeria head coach Finidi George has made it clear that the Super Eagles are fully focused on their objective ahead of their upcoming clash against South Africa.

The match, scheduled for Friday, June 7, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, is part of the qualifying series for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Clear Objective for the Super Eagles

The Super Eagles need a victory against South Africa to move ahead of the Bafana Bafana and challenge Group C leaders Rwanda. Despite facing several challenges, including injuries and withdrawals of key players like Victor Osimhen, Nathan Tella, and captain Williams Troost-Ekong, the team is determined to secure a win.

Preparations Amid Challenges

Finidi George’s preparations have been hindered by a labor strike, which delayed the arrival of eight players to the camp. As of Monday, he had only 15 out of the 23 invited players available for training. However, the situation improved on Tuesday with the arrival of Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Frank Onyeka, and Paul Onuachu, boosting the squad’s strength.

Confident that his plans are coming together, Finidi George reassured fans of the team’s commitment. He took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to post a succinct message reflecting the team’s unwavering focus: “100% to the course,” followed by the hashtag #SoarSuperEagles.

Finidi’s Coaching Journey

This match against South Africa will be Finidi George’s first since his appointment as the team’s head coach last month. Previously, as interim coach, he led the Super Eagles to a 2-1 victory over Ghana and a 2-1 loss to Mali in friendly matches in March.
